Re: [ferret_users] Use Map symbol in plot/vs

Hi Karen,

These sets of symbols such as Cartographic, Math, etc, are not available for PLOT/VS but are only for use in labels. That's the case for both PyFerret and classic Ferret. I think your best option would be to look at the PyFerret namedsymbols , and perhaps experiment with defining your own custom symbol, which is described just below that section. You make a little file with the shape defined, and then call that file by naming it.

I've added a couple of notes to ../../documentation/users-guide/ferret-fonts/list-of-ferret-fonts to clarify this.

Hi Everyone

I use to plot location of points on maps using commands such as
plot/vs/ov/symbol=18 lon,lat
Using the "traditional" symbols proposed by ferret (cf figure attached).

In pyferret, I have seen that there are some extra symbols that can be used
However I do not understand how to apply these ones to a simple command line like mine. For instance, if I want to use the symbol "36" from the Symbol Font Map, how do I do?

Thank you for your time
