Hi all,

first a remark: standard deviation is defined differently, 
it is wighted by @ngd-1. 
Here is not the right place to argue about the right definition
of mathematical objects. However, it would be of great help to
find a formula in the manual, how the operations in ferret are
defined. In this case each user can decide, whether operators do
what is desired or not.
