max number of variables

Hello fereteers,

I encountered a problem reading in many files (NetCDF) with equally many
variables:

 **TMAP ERR: limit on number of variables has been reached
             MAX= 500
             Data set: /home/rvk/nizj04.nc
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Is there a way to increase this limit or  read in the data selectively, because
actually I don't need ALL of them :-) .
